Olweus Bullying Prevention training

In the early spring of 2011, the Lyndonville PEI began addressing Dignity for All legislation by forming a coordinating committee to oversee a systematic approach to improving bullying prevention. As part of the coordinating committee, Amy Muscato, Craig Paas, Bliss Thilkey, Gina Carncross, Christine Goodwin, Kim Nealon, and Patrick Whipple worked with behavioral specialists from Genesee Valley BOCES concerning the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Staff, parents and even students in Lyndonville are being trained in Stephen R. Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and “The Leader in Me.” Lyndonville’s Mental Health Prevention Counselor Christine Goodwin said the goal is to have a community-wide dialogue about the strategies and principals incorporated in Covey’s books.

“It begins with the adults, leading by example, and then it’s incorporated throughout the culture, from teachers and students, to families,” she said.

Professional Development Day

Faculty and staff participated in a full-day of Professional Development on Friday, March 11. Activities  related directly to the Board of Education and District’s School Improvement Goals took place in both buildings. Professional Development included learning about Data Walls, Stephen Covey's book The Leader in Me, Castle Learning, Writing Across Curriculum, a Curriculum Mapping work session, as well as a showing of Waiting for Superman, which was followed by a Socratic Dialogue.

Teachers get hands-on with Collaboration activities

Faculty and staff discussed collaboration at the Lyndonville High School faculty meeting on Wednesday, February 9. Teachers and staff took part in team-building exercises which can be used in the classroom to increase students’ collaboration skills and to help address various learning styles.

Mentor program helps new teachers succeed 

Math teacher Alison Amidon came to Lyndonville this year fresh out of SUNY Geneseo. Within the first few months, she recognized that putting all she had learned at college into practice was a challenge.

“When I first started I felt like I was flying by the seat of my pants,” she said, “but after half a year, I feel like I’ve gotten my classroom procedures down. I know all my students and they know me. I just feel way more comfortable.”

That’s partly due to Lyndonville’s Mentor Teacher Internship Program, which Amidon said has helped her feel much more comfortable in her new role.
