In art classes at the middle school level, students will participate in a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional experiences. Students will also learn to look at, understand, and appreciate the influences of art from different historic times, and cultures. The artistic skills required for satisfying achievement art are developed and the critical skills involved in appreciating art are introduced. Through projects that address the elements (line, shape, space, color and texture) and principles (rhythm, movement, balance, proportion, variety emphasis and unity) students will work to meet the NYS visual art standards. Art classes are provided for each student at the 5th and 6th grade level in a 13 week block. 8th grade students take art for the equivalent of ½ year (every day for 20 weeks or every other day all year long).
