Hello, Elementary Families!

As we heard from the Governor last week, students will not be returning to the school building this academic year.  I join with all of the staff in sharing how much we miss our students and look forward to when we are able to join together again.  With the most recent NYS notification, I wanted to take the opportunity to update on important PreK - 6 topics:

REPORT CARDS

As shared in the March 31, 2020 parent letter, in the case that our students are not able to return to school, each student will receive a detailed feedback document at year end.  This will include their strengths and areas of needed improvement in both academic areas and work habits in lieu of a traditional quarter 4 report cards.

STUDENT SUPPLIES

Student supplies (pencils, crayons, glue sticks, paper, etc.) will be saved at school to allow for a minimized back to school supply list in August.   Personal items (extra clothes, sneakers, etc.) will be bagged up for parent pick up in  mid-May.  Detailed information on PreK-6 pick up will be shared by the District May 14.  As we receive information about yearbooks, we will share that with families.

STUDENT LEARNING

Student learning continues, and teachers have been diligent in providing feedback for completed work shared electronically.  Families are encouraged to reach out to classroom teachers by phone or email with academic questions or concerns.  The next wave of packets will be picked up in mid-May.  A robo-call will share details for when to call and schedule pick ups.  Please see the detailed letter shared by Mrs. Sharon Smith, Director of Instruction, on April 24, 2020 for details on academic support / planning for students: http://www.lyndonvillecsd.org/article/236676?org=lcsd .

FOOD SERVICE

Our cafeteria staff continues to provide breakfast and lunch to children in the District at no charge.  These may be picked up between 9AM - 11AM using the parent drop off/pick up loop.  Please email Mrs. Higgins at mhiggins@LCSDK12.org or call 585.765.3166 with questions.

END OF YEAR CELEBRATIONS

Like many of you, we look forward to celebrating our students’ milestones through Kindergarten Graduation and 6th Grade Moving Up ceremonies each June.  As we are unable to physically gather, we are collaborating to develop digital celebrations to share with families.  Kindergarten and 6th grade families should take special note of upcoming communication from teachers to help ensure all students are included!

PreK / KINDERGARTEN and NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION

If you have not already shared your intent to register with us, please contact Mrs. Diane Thurber (dthurber@LCSDK12.org or 765-3122) to inquire about PreK space in our 3-year old program (child must turn 3 by December 1, 2020) and our 4-year old program (child must turn 4 by December 1, 2020).  PreK seats are limited, so please contact us as soon as possible!

STUDENT SUPPORT

If your child is struggling emotionally with the closing of our school building, please know that our counseling team is here to help!  Please reach out to Mrs. Cassie Fleck (cfleck@LCSDK12.org or 765-3191) or Mrs. Kim Nealon (knealon@LCSDK12.org or 765-3147) to share your concerns.

BACK TO SCHOOL

We recognize that teacher and staff connections with students are important.  We will be developing a return to school plan to submit to NYS that will take student and staff physical health and emotional well-being into account.  We are collaborating to develop plans for students to re-connect with this year’s teachers while they develop relationships with their new teachers and staff when it is deemed safe to return to school.

As always, please continue to reach out to us with your questions and suggestions.  We are so grateful for your support during this difficult time.  Thank you for your continued partnership with us at LCSD!

Sincerely,

Dr. Elissa Smith
