Dear Lyndonville Families and Community,

I am pleased to report we held our first official Re-Opening Committee meeting  earlier today.  Although school staff has been meeting all summer, this was our first meeting where representation from various groups came together.  We have student, teacher, staff, community, parent, Board of Education, and administration working collaboratively to develop and submit a Re-Opening Plan.

Members of the Re-Opening Committee have all received guidance and requirements from the New York State Health Department and Education Department, and have reviewed it prior to the opening meeting.

After remarks from Board of Education President Theodore Lewis, Orleans County Public Health Director Paul Pettit, and School Physician Dr. Eric Johnson, I addressed the group about our important task moving forward:  to develop a plan to re-open school safely for students, staff, and our community.

There are thirteen focus areas in the State Education Guidance, which are:

  • Communication/Family Engagement
  • Health and safety/Facilities
  • Child Nutrition
  • Transportation
  • Social Emotional Well-Being
  • School Schedules
  • Budget and Fiscal Matters
  • Attendance and Chronic Absenteeism
  • Technology and Connectivity
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Career and Technical Education
  • Athletics and Extra-curricular
  • Special Education
  • Bilingual Education and World Languages
  • Staffing
  • Teacher Evaluation
  • Student Teaching

Committee members were separated into sub-committees, where they began delving into the required components.  We also reviewed the results from the parent and community survey, which will be shared later this week, to help guide decision-making.

Over the next two weeks, the committee will be meeting on a regular basis to develop a plan which will be posted on our website by the close of business on July 31, 2020.

Committee members may be found here:

Please know that our committee will work thoughtfully and collaboratively as we complete this important process.

As always, please contact me directly with questions.
