December 9, 2020

Dear Lyndonville Families,

I would like to thank you for your ongoing efforts to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our school and community. With your assistance, we have been able to successfully keep our doors open and offer daily in-person instruction for all our students with remote instruction as an option.

As you know, we have been in regular contact with the Orleans County Department of Health and are closely monitoring the rise of positive cases in our district. Throughout the pandemic, we have had to make adjustments on a case-by-case basis to ensure the safety of our students and staff. As the number of positive COVID-19 cases continues to rise across New York State and Orleans County, it brings a number of challenges for our school district, including the ability to staff in-person learning with certified staff members. In addition, positive cases continue to grow and many staff and students are unable to attend in-person instruction given the close-contact quarantine mandate.

Therefore, I have made the difficult decision to temporarily transition to 100% remote learning beginning Monday, December 14, 2020, through the holiday recess.

Here are some important details:

  • Our last day of in-person instruction will be Friday, December 11 for students in grades Pre K -5.
  • For students in grades 6-12, the Academic Assistance Day for December 11 will go on as planned.  Students who are not expected to attend the Academic Assistance Day on Friday, December 11, their last day will be Thursday, December 10.  (Information about the Academic Assistance Day may be found be opening this link).
  • Free breakfast and lunch continue to be available for all District students.  During this closure, meals may be picked up each day from 9 AM - 11 AM in the parent drop off loop at the far cafeteria door (labeled #5). On Friday, 12/18, food pick up will contain meals for 3 days. There will be no meals served 12/21 - 1/1/2021.  If meal delivery is needed, kindly call 765-3122 to request.
  • If you do not have internet access at home, you may request a Kajeet wireless hotspot by contacting Dr. Aaron Slack via email aslack@lcsdk12.org or by phone 765-3162.
  • If a student requires transportation to and from BOCES: Walkers will continue to come to LCSD, board the bus at LCSD to ON BOCES and board the bus for the return trip to LCSD, and will walk home from LCSD.  Students who ride the bus to LCSD, please contact the Lynn Fetzner at 765-2701 and LCSD will send a bus to pick the student and at the completion of the ON BOCES study, will be transported home.

Our plan is to have everyone back to school for full in-person learning on Monday, January 4, 2021.  This temporary measure will also allow us to focus on one mode of teaching and instruction for all our students.  There will be communication over break that will re-confirm this plan, and if it should change, you of course will so be notified.

I understand that this presents a hardship for some of our families and I assure you this decision was not made lightly. My intent is to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, staff and district, while providing a quality education program.

As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns at the contact information below.

Stay well, and best wishes for safe and enjoyable holiday season.  I look forward to seeing our students grace our halls once again in 2021!
