Lyndonville Central School

Dear Lyndonville Families,

I want to take a moment to update you on the school masking mandates. I expected an announcement this week from NYS, but that has not yet come. The Governor had announced that she would reassess the existing mask mandate for schools over the week’s winter break, and if our metrics continue to look favorable, she could lift the mask mandate soon after.

When the Governor does lift the mandate, then Lyndonville Central Schools will shift to a mask-optional policy. When we receive information from the Governor’s office, we will share that with you immediately. We will have available high-quality masks for any student, faculty, and staff member who may want one. We will continue our cleaning and spacing protocols as recommended.

Since the outset of the pandemic, we have followed the mandates and guidance from our local and state health departments, NYSED and NYS.  We are working with the Orleans County Department of Health for any shifts to the current mask mandate. However, until that time, New York State schools are still required to follow the existing state mandate until it expires. We have monitored our local COVID data and have seen it trend in the right direction over the last few weeks. I am hopeful that we soon will return to the normal we all so desperately seek.

Thank you for taking your advocacy to our local, county, and state lawmakers, while keeping our school buildings free of the political fights that have been seen elsewhere. Thank you for your continued support and protection of our school environment, allowing our kids to learn, play, and thrive in a warm safe space. I am so grateful to be part of this Lyndonville community.

Most Sincerely,

Sharon Smith, Interim Superintendent
