Are you interested in running for the School Board?

If you have ever considered running for the school board, now is an excellent time to explore the position and process. This year, the Lyndonville Central School District will hold elections to fill three (3) board positions, for 3-year terms.

The board of education is a uniquely American institution. It oversees and manages the community’s public-school system. It ensures the public schools are flexible and responsive to the needs of the community.  School boards are comprised of volunteers within the community who dedicate their time to better public education.

If you want to find out more about the election process and school board member responsibilities, why don’t you join some current board members at the Orange Cat on March 6 at 5:00 p.m. or at the Parent Teacher Student Association meeting on March 13 at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Resource Center. You can also get information from the Lewiston-Porter Central School District Clerk at mbarile@lew-port.com or 716-286-7266.

The Niagara-Orleans School Boards Association is holding a free workshop for prospective board members. You will learn about the election process, school boards and the law, Board-Superintendent relations, fiscal oversight and budget development, and perspectives on school board campaigns and school board service from veteran board members. The workshop will be held on Saturday, March 30, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Newfane Early Childhood Center at 6048 Godfrey Road, Burt, NY. The workshop is presented as a community service and is free of charge. To register, please call the Niagara County School Boards Association at 716-731-6800 ext. 2211 or e-mail dedwards@onboces.org.

Additional information can be found at the School Board Member Experience, a website provided by the New York State School Boards Association. They provide information on eligibility, deadlines, starting the campaign process, basic roles and responsibilities, training requirements, leadership skills and more. You can visit the website at http://bit.ly/schoolboardexp.

We hope you will consider running for the school board and help us provide our students the best education possible.
