AVID Elementary is a foundational component of the AVID College Readiness System and supports AVID’s mission and vision to provide a comprehensive model of success for all students, from elementary through higher education.
Through a three-stage systemic approach, AVID Elementary supports students in different grade levels, settings, and infrastructures on their journey to college readiness. Components of AVID Elementary include student success skills, organizational skills, WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading) and L-WICOR lessons, and partnerships.
Based on the same learning foundation that underlies AVID Secondary, AVID Elementary is designed to be embedded into the daily instruction of all elementary classrooms, across entire grade levels, to impact school wide structures. Like AVID Secondary, AVID Elementary Essentials focus on the four necessary areas to ensure that all students are poised for academic success: Instruction, Culture, Leadership, and Systems.
AVID Elementary's resources, trainings, and philosophy are all grounded in the idea that the growth mindset can be taught to students, and it is through the growth mindset that AVID students succeed in following their dreams and fulfilling their aspirations.
