Annual Transportation Form Required
All families must complete an Annual Transportation Form each school year to confirm transportation needs and pickup/drop-off locations for their student(s).
Please complete and submit the Annual Transportation Form before the start of each school year and whenever transportation information changes.
Annual Transportation Form (fillable and submitted online)
Transportation is a privilege, and student safety is our goal. The following school bus rules have been developed to ensure the safety of all riders. Please review the following with your children. Additional bus safety and transportation information is provided in parent and student handbooks.
Bus Stop Safety
- Be at your bus stop 5 minutes before your scheduled pickup time.
- Stand at least 15 feet (10 large steps) from the roadway and remain visible to the driver.
- Stay calm and avoid running, playing, or horseplay while waiting for the bus.
- If multiple students use the same stop, all students should be present and ready to board together.
- Dress appropriately for weather conditions.
- Please remember that buses may occasionally arrive late due to traffic, weather, or other unforeseen circumstances.
Loading and Riding the Bus
- Board promptly and proceed directly to your seat.
- Remain seated, keep aisles clear, and stay seated until the bus comes to a complete stop.
- Food, candy, gum, and drinks are not permitted on the bus. Students may bring a sealed, leak-proof water bottle that remains in their backpack until dismissal.
- All belongings must fit inside a backpack. Items such as skateboards and fishing poles are not permitted.
- Students may use one earbud or headphone while riding the bus but may not play amplified music. Electronic devices must remain silent and not distract the driver.
- Use respectful language and behavior at all times.
Crossing the Road Safely
Parents are encouraged to review and model these procedures with their children:
- Stay at least 15 feet from the bus and roadway.
- Wait until you can see the driver and the driver can see you.
- Watch for the driver's signal before crossing.
- Walk to the edge of the bus and look left and right before proceeding.
- Continue directly home after crossing.
Important: If the driver sounds the horn, it means DANGER. Immediately return to where you started.
Never stop to retrieve dropped items. Inform the driver instead.
Student Release and Drop-Off Procedures
- Students under age 10 must be released to a visible supervising adult.
- Students age 10 and older, but not yet in 7th grade, may be released independently only if authorization is provided on the Annual Transportation Form.
- Students may not be dropped off at an empty house unless approved under district procedures.
- After exiting the bus, students should proceed directly home. Please do not stop to collect mail or move garbage cans until after the bus has departed.
- If your child uses a car seat, an adult must assist with buckling and unbuckling at pickup and drop-off.
Transportation Requests and Bus Assignments
- Bus drivers cannot accept notes requesting transportation changes.
- Any transportation change must be submitted through the school office using the appropriate transportation form and receive approval.
- Students are assigned one regular morning pickup location and one regular afternoon drop-off location. Multiple weekly drop-off locations cannot be accommodated.
- Students may not ride home with friends unless that location is their approved daily stop.
Additional Information
- Bus drivers will not sound the horn to announce arrival at a stop. The horn is used only to warn of danger.
- All school buses are equipped with video recording devices to support student safety and security.

In accordance with safety regulations requiring clear aisles and unobstructed exits, items brought on the school bus must be small enough to be held on a student’s lap and must not block the aisle. Oversized items, including large musical instruments and materials for class events, may not be transported on the school bus.
Acceptable Items if Held on Lap:
- SMALL INTRUMENTS: Piccolo, oboe, flute, soprano clarinet, bassoon, snare drum, alto saxophone, French horn, trombone, trumpet, violin, and viola.
- SPORTS GEAR: Sports equipment must be fully contained in a bag or case and may not be carried loose or extend into the aisle. All items that could roll around (soccer balls, basketballs, baseballs, softballs, etc...) must be secured inside of a sports bag or backpack.
Not Accepted as Lap Items:
- LARGE ITEMS: Items that cannot be safely held on a student’s lap or that may block the aisle, seats, or exits are not permitted on the school bus. This includes oversized musical instruments, large school projects, and recreational equipment such as skateboards, bicycles, fishing poles, skis, and sleds. Parents or guardians must make alternate transportation arrangements for these items.
- PROHIBITED ITEMS: The following items are not permitted on the school bus: weapons of any kind, glass containers, aerosol cans, and animals, except for properly harnessed service animals accompanying a person with a disability.
-
- Families should have a plan in place for early dismissals, including supervision for younger students. Bus drivers will not release elementary students unless a responsible adult is visible at the stop.
- Students who normally ride the bus, but will be picked up instead, may only be released to a parent or authorized individual if properly signed out through the school office. Written permission is required for release to anyone other than a parent or guardian.
-
Eighth period ends at 2:35 p.m. Students who remain after this time must do so under the supervision of a teacher. The teacher will obtain passes from the office for those who wish to ride the late bus. No one will be permitted to board a late bus without a bus pass.
-
The parent/guardian of a parochial or private school child residing in the District who desires their child to be transported to a parochial, private or charter school outside of the District during the next school year, must submit a written request to the Board no later than April 1 of the preceding year, or within 30 days of moving into the District.

Our goal is to provide clear and timely communication to ensure the safety of your children. The Lyndonville Central School District may occasionally cancel classes or delay the opening of school due to inclement weather or other emergencies. The decision to open or close schools will be based on a careful analysis of information received from District transportation officials and local law enforcement partners.
The following radio and TV stations are designated to provide closing information:

In rare and extraordinary circumstances, a student may need to ride a bus other than their regularly assigned route or be transported to an alternate drop-off location. In such cases, a parent or guardian should contact the appropriate school office as soon as the need becomes known.
For students in grades PreK-6, requests should be directed to the Elementary Principal's Secretary. For students in grades 7-12, requests should be directed to the Jr./Sr. High School Principal's Secretary. Office staff will coordinate with the building principal to review the request.
While the District recognizes that unforeseen situations may arise, changes to established transportation arrangements create additional logistical and student safety considerations. For this reason, requests for alternate transportation will be approved only when warranted by the circumstances and when doing so can be accomplished safely and efficiently. Building principals are the only administrators authorized to approve changes to a student's bus assignment.
