Philosophy of the Interscholastic Athletic Program at LCSD

As a student progresses from level to another, it is our hope that there will be continued growth in athletic skill level. Each level should build upon the other as the student moves through the program. With the change in the change in each level, the emphasis on participation time and the relevance of competition changes.

In brief, we believe in striving for excellence in our athletic program. However, we do not seek this at the expense of individual students. Our ultimate goal is to give as many students as is possible the opportunity to reach their maximum potential as an athlete.

Participation Levels

MODIFIED

There will be an emphasis on introducing and teaching the educational goals of the Lyndonville Central School District Interscholastic Athletic Department. The focus will be on sportsmanship, teamwork, skill development, and commitment. Each athlete will play a practical amount of time in each contest with the exception of when the team rules are broken.

JUNIOR VARSITY

There will continue to be an emphasis to teach and expand on the educational goals of the Lyndonville Central School District Interscholastic Athletic Department. While developing a winning philosophy, the emphasis is on teaching the student-athlete how to win and lose properly. Each individual will be given the opportunity to play during the season at the discretion of the coach(s). It is to be understood that playing time is not equal at the junior varsity level.

VARSITY

Understanding and application of the educational goals of the Lyndonville Central School District Interscholastic Athletic Department is expected at the varsity level. Varsity teams play to win the contest, but participants should accept the fact that important lessons are to be learned from losing. It is recognized that all student-athletes may not participate in all of the contests. The amount of playing time will be at the coach's discretion. Achievement of the team's goals is dependent on every student-athlete's commitment to the team, ability level, and the understanding of their role on the team.
