Elementary School Update

March 31, 2020

Hello Lyndonville Elementary Families!

We miss our students, and we are very thankful to our families who are encouraging continued learning from home!

PreK - 1st grade utilize learning packets with electronic tools (Class Dojo, for example).  2nd - 6th grade staff utilize Google Classroom, and students without a device should reach out to Mrs. Thurber to request a Chromebook (585.765.3122 or dthurber@lcsdk12.org).  Many online resources are available through the PreK - 6 link on the www.lyndonvillecsd.org’s Closure Resources tab.

April paper packets for PreK-1st graders and 2nd - 6th graders without internet access are being put together by teachers this week.  Those with access to Google Classroom do not need to pick up packets, as all information is online.  2nd - 6th grade students do not need to print  items through Google Classroom.  They will be available for pick up on Monday, April 6th and Tuesday, April 7th.  Please email or call Mrs. Thurber this week to let us know if you will be picking up packets at the same time as food (9AM-11AM).  You MUST have an appointment in order to pick up academic materials.

As Mr. Smith shared in his communication, the following guidelines have been developed for at home learning:

Grades 5 & 6:  approximately 2 hours per day plus reading and IXL.

Grades 2-4:  90 minutes daily plus reading and IXL.

PreK -  1: 60 minutes daily plus reading and IXL.

Students are currently focusing on strengthening previous learning and foundational skills while we await further guidance from the New York State Department of Education. We are providing enrichment opportunities through IXL, independent reading, and writing options. We encourage you to have students stay active, play games as a family, and share your talents of cooking, art, and hands on learning with your children.

Regardless of return date, we will not be completing Quarter 3 report cards.  If we return to school in May, we will utilize our traditional report cards for Quarter 4.  Should we not return this school year, each student will receive a detailed feedback document sharing their strengths and areas of needed improvement in both academic areas and work habits.

We know this is a difficult time for our students and families.  We are grateful for your support and feedback as we navigate this process together.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or myself with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Elissa  Smith
