cover of Tiger Talks newspaper

The Newspaper Club has been resurrected at LCSD. Students successfully produced two editions this spring and they can be found here.

Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to join the club, which is advised by teacher Emma Baldwin. Approximately 16 students were actively involved in the club this year. They formed a student-led executive board and elected Bella Bresett as President, Lila Belson as Vice President, Sarah Corser as Treasurer, Alexis Marciszewski as Secretary and Aurora Avery as Media Coordinator. They voted on a name for the paper and "Tiger Talks" was born.

The first edition was released as a small special edition and focused on this year's high school musical "Newsies." A small amount of paper copies was printed for distribution. This was followed up by a larger second edition released on June 12, covering a wider variety of topics. With the release of this edition, more copies were printed and placed in distribution boxes around the Housel Ave. building. Media Coordinator Aurora collaborated with the building maintenance crew to have the boxes placed near the cafeteria, next to the art display in the main foyer, at the end of the tech hallway, next to the auditorium, and between Christopher Vaughan and Brooke McAdoo's classrooms. There are plans to create a newspaper club logo and affix it to the boxes in the future.

Founding club member and President Bella had the idea to resurrect the club and presented it in January to Baldwin, Junior/Senior High School Principal Dr. Aaron Slack and Superintendent Sharon Smith for approval. For a description of the club, visit the Clubs and Activities page.

The Newspaper Club plans to release future editions seasonally based on the participation of members and available content. Tentative plans are to release an early fall edition to kick off the 2025-26 school year. Students will be meeting over the summer to plan this edition and work on marketing, digital outreach and long-term strategy planning.

Students ended the spring semester by hosting an end-of-year celebration and awards event called the "Dundies." For more details, see the post in the Live Feed or on Facebook and Twitter about it.
