Dear LCSD Families and Community,
This will be a special edition of my bi-weekly update, as it will only contain one informational item.
Our District is slated to receive approximately $2 million in federal aid money, of which there are specific requirements for spending and planning. This is part of the American Rescue Plan, passed by the federal government this past spring.
One of those requirements is to have a plan posted on our website by July 1; however, Districts need to engage with stakeholders prior to posting the said plan.
Here is what we are allowed to spend the funds over the next few years:
*safely returning students to in-person instruction;
*maximizing in-person instruction time;
*operating schools and meeting the needs of students;
*purchasing educational technology;
*addressing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on students, including the
impacts of interrupted instruction and learning loss and the impacts on low-
income students, children with disabilities, English language learners, and
students experiencing homelessness;
*implementing evidence-based strategies to meet students' social, emotional,
mental health, and academic needs;
*offering evidence-based summer, afterschool, and other extended learning and
enrichment programs; and
*supporting early childhood education.
Districts are also required to ensure that the costs not be recurring, as much as possible (e.g., hiring more staff).
As part of the feedback process, you are invited to fill out the form below where you can offer ideas, input, and suggestions into each of the above-listed categories. Community members will have a similar opportunity which I will share with them later this week.
