update

September 24, 2021

Dear Lyndonville Families and Community,

Next week will be an exciting week for all of us as we celebrate Homecoming and the pride of being a Lyndonville Tiger.  We will have special dress up days, games and activities for students, plenty of athletic events, and food trucks on October 2—not to be missed for sure!  This year, our students who drive were given the opportunity to decorate their parking spot—we have some wonderful and creative designs so far.  Thank you to our Student Council leadership and advisors Gina Marker and Maegan Suhr for their efforts and commitment.

Earlier this week, I had the honor of attending our annual National Honor Society and Junior Honor Society Induction ceremonies.  Several students were recognized for exemplifying the pillars of the Society, which are: character, leadership, service, citizenship, and scholarship.  Congratulations to inductees and their families.

Speaking of extra-curricular events, our rehearsals for the Elementary Musical “The Lion King” have begun and we look forward to this show later in November!

While the state mask mandate has been controversial, I would like to commend our students and staff for continuing to meet and follow all COVID-19 protocols and procedures.  I would again encourage you to contact our legislative representatives to address any concerns you have.   I recently responded to a request from the Rural Schools Association of New York State to participate in lobbying efforts, as our school was one of the few to remain fully open last year.  The Association is interested in learning from schools like ours and using that knowledge to inform and lobby state lawmakers and leaders.

I have just a few other COVID-19 updates:

  • As we did last year, please do not send your child(ren) to school if they are not feeling well or demonstrating any symptoms of COVID-19.
  • We have begun the required weekly testing of non-vaccinated staff.
  • This year, we will not be notifying families in real time of any positive cases.  Instead, you are encouraged to visit this link where all of our data will be reported:   COVID 19 data.    When you arrive to the site, simply type “Lyndonville” in the search box.

Beginning on Tuesday, October 12, we are going to return to our previous dismissal procedures that we used during the 2019-2020 school year.  Please expect that dismissal procedures will be twenty (20) minutes later beginning Tuesday, October 12.  For example, buses will arrive home approximately 20 minutes later than they are presently.  In order to avoid congestion, Dr. Smith will be communicating with elementary families over the next couple weeks regarding specific pick-up details.  Additional text and other reminders will be sent.  Thanks for your understanding as we seek to increase the academic time for our students.

As you saw in media releases, under the leadership of Dr. Smith, we now have a beautiful Pre K Playground for our students to enjoy. Our Pre K program has expanded with more enrollment, and this will only serve to better our entire community as students are being exposed to education much earlier, thereby providing them with so many important fundamentals.

I look forward to celebrating the Tiger pride and spirit as we celebrate Homecoming 2021!

Thank you.
