                              COVID 19 CLOSURE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

How long will we continue to run the grab and go food service?

  • Our food service program will continue through the student school closure period, or unless directed otherwise.

School Closure, Academics, Co-curricular Activities

Are we returning to school?  If, so when?

  • As of right now, Governor Cuomo has ordered school closed for students through April 15.  President Trump has issued a continuation of social distancing until April 30.

Will there be additional Continuity of Learning packets?

  • Yes, please call Mrs. Thurber or Mrs. Barone for arrangements. Packet picks up are Monday, April 6 and Tuesday, April 7.

How are we continuing with special education services during this Continuity of Learning?

  • Special Education teachers are maintaining contact and providing accommodations through distance learning.

Is Continuity of Learning expected to continue over the April recess?

  • Yes, Continuity of Learning should proceed through the April recess.  Students should continue to work on packets, teachers should continue to communicate with students/families, and Counseling Department members should continue to provide support.

What if I am a student and am having trouble with some of my assigned work?

  • First, contact your teacher who assigned the work, as they are best apt to help.  Then, you can always contact your school counselor or principal who may be able to provide additional support suggestions.

What will school look like at the high school, if we return this year?

  • It really depends on how soon we return, and what expectations still exist with regard to Regents exams.

Will there be AP exams?

  • Yes, students should contact their AP teachers for guidance.

Will there be Regent Exams?

  • This answer is expected soon.  Monday, April 6 is a Board of Regents meeting.

How will the State Board of Regents address learning gaps in multi-year curricula ie.  Global? ELA and Mathematics at the HS level into the future?

  • The Board of Regents has said they hope to provide guidance on Regents exam related questions by next week.  It is yet to be seen how much guidance they are prepared to give at this time.

What will we do with the marking periods?

Will there be Field Trips?

  • All trips through April are canceled.  We will reassess May trips in the coming weeks. .

Will there be spring concerts?

  • It is possible, however, I would not be surprised if we receive recommendations and guidance regarding large group activities and non-essential meetings/interactions/travel upon our return to school. 

Will there be spring sports?

  • It is possible, however, I would not be surprised if we receive recommendations and guidance regarding large group activities and non-essential meetings/interactions/travel upon our return to school.  Section V is expected to make a decision by the end of April.

What about prom and graduation?

  • Clearly these are important events culminating an entire school career.  Therefore, we will delay as long as possible making decisions on these events.

 How are we handling scheduling for secondary students?

  • Many students met with counselors prior to schools being closed for students.  Counselors will continue to reach out to students to work on schedules for the 2020-2021 school year.

When will the School Board Elections and Budget Votes take place? 

  • The Governor determined that School Board Elections and Budget Votes will be delayed until at least June 1. 

Will we have enough time to meet the deadlines and prepare for the School Board Elections and Budget Votes?

  • Once a date or time frame is set for the School Board Elections and Budget Votes, then we will work to meet the expectations.  Our notifications have been prepared and were already set to go to the papers. We will only need to make some modifications before sending.
